How we hire

Our hiring process is thorough to ensure we build an exceptional team, and to help you decide if ISD is the right fit for you.

Shortlisting

The team will review all applications for the position and shortlist according to the relevant position criteria.

It's helpful to hear why you're interested in the role you're applying for and why you think you're the best fit for the job, so a good cover letter goes a long way!

1st Stage Interview

In this meeting, a team recruiter or a member of our HR team will tell you more about the role, and ask questions to understand your experience and what you could bring to ISD. You can expect questions about your career history, your overall resume, and how your knowledge and skills make you a perfect fit for the open position.

All our recruitment is conducted fully remotely and suitable for candidates with accessibility requirements.

Assessment

Depending on the role, you may be asked to complete an assessment designed to test your skills or knowledge. This may be unique to ISD subject-matter, or a more standardized screening administered via a 3rd party testing software. Assessments are geared toward what you might expect to do as part of the role, and should give you more insight into the challenges of the position. They also allow us to deliver a fair, thorough and evidence-based process and can help to minimize bias.

Final Interview

You made it! At this stage you may meet with more senior leaders or a panel of your peers. The nature of the interview will always be communicated to you by your recruiter in advance.

After this meeting, ISD will decide on which candidate to select and a member of our HR team will reach out to the successful candidate to extend an offer of employment. Please note that we are typically unable to provide specific interview feedback to unsuccessful candidates, but we aim to get back to each individual who has been interviewed, regardless of the outcome, within 1 week of an interview.

Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion

ISD is committed to promoting diversity throughout its workforce and aims for its team to be truly representative of all sections of society. We make a concerted effort to ensure our workplace, employment policies and organisational culture creates an inclusive, positive and progressive environment in which all members of our team are treated with dignity and respect. For further information about this policy or our recruitment practices, please email vacancies@isdglobal.org.

We strongly encourage applications from people of colour, the LGBTQ+ community, people with disabilities, neurodivergent people, carers, and people from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.

Good to know

No candidate will meet every requirement in the advert. If your experience looks a little different from what we've identified, but you think you can bring value to the role, we'd love to hear from you.

The majority of our roles can be performed remotely and we are happy for you to work in a way that best supports your work-life balance.

We have offices in London, Washington D.C. and Berlin and you may work from your contracted office as often as you wish. Some roles may require occasional or regular office attendance—please check the job posting for specific requirements.

Candidates must normally be employed by one of our three separate legal entities: ISD UK, ISD Germany or ISD-US. If you do not have the right to work in the UK, Germany or US, please check the job advert before applying, as we will specify if we accept applications from outside these countries or if we are able to provide Visa sponsorship.

If you see a position you would like to apply for, please submit your application as soon as possible. ISD reserves the right to interview and appoint candidates prior to the advertised closing date.

For roles with a high quantity of applicants, our review process may take longer than expected. In these cases, we may only reach out to candidates selected for the next stage.

We take our candidate's data privacy seriously. You can review the information notice for our recruitment practices here.
